Weather Hurts Cotton Pests in Texas Report

Dr. F L Thomas of the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station says cotton leafworms are in Calhoun and Nueces counties with few worm numbers but two thirds grown in Port Lavaca. Nueces reports young yet abundant worms while Cameron and Hidalgo have none. hot dry weather delays pests and may allow cotton to escape damage if showers trigger growth within ten days.

Bryanite reunites with half brother after 27 years

Sam C. Carraba returned from a 30 day California trip to see his half brother Joe Scimonetto, last seen in 1906. The meeting in Los Angeles lasted 20 minutes before Scimonetto recognized him. Carraba stalled plans, traveled with relatives, and shared tales of Yosemite, the Golden Gate, and other Pacific sights on the journey from Brazos County to Bryan.

Brenham Honors Rep Buchanan With Park Band Stand Dedication

Brenham will pay tribute Friday night to Congressman J. P. Buchanan. A new rock band stand at Firemen's Park will be dedicated with a ceremony and a varied concert by the Brenham Concert Band under F. J. Navratil. Choruses led by Mrs. Kate E. Governor Grants Furlough to Brazos Convict Trio

Governor Miriam A. Ferguson extended clemency to eleven Texas prisoners including Willie Robinson of Brazos County who received a furlough. The decision follows clear violations of liquor laws and assigns a two year and sixty day sentence.

July 10 Many Texas counties race to sign farm offerings for government cotton reduction. O B Martin Extension Service director says Texas is near 4 129 308 acres offered, with 2 857 296 acres reported and over 1 000 000 more potentially eligible as forms reach counties. First Open Boll Of Cotton Seen In Bryan Friday

The first fully opened boll of cotton of the season arrived in Bryan from Martin Glowskie’s Riverside farm. Harry Estell reported seeing significant opening in the Brazos bottoms on Thursday night, with expectations of earlier market alerts than in recent years as the first bale could arrive around midmonth.

City Gains Adequate Clean Water Supply With New Well

City officials report Bryan now has full storage tanks and ample potable water for domestic, industrial, and fire use. The new well connected to the mains pumps 300 gallons per minute and could exceed 700 gpm with a larger pump, prompting potential summer rate cuts to help residents water lawns and gardens.
