East Texas C of C Plans All Expense Chicago Trip

The East Texas Chamber of Commerce will take a guided all expense tour to the Century of Progress in Chicago. Departure from Longview is Saturday August 19 at 7 30 p m return Friday August 26 at 4 30 p m under Glen D Davis. Reservations limited to 100 with a $10 deposit refundable if canceled before August 14. Base rates start at 49 31 for one in a lower berth and 47 05 for one in an upper berth with two in lower 43 68 each and children five to twelve deduct 8 75. Gasoline Tax Rules for Mail and Army Purchases Issued

The Texas attorney general's department ruled that U S mail vehicle owners under contract or rural delivery are not exempt from the state gasoline tax. Exemption applies only if the U S government pays for the gasoline. Another opinion held gasoline sold to an army post for resale to personnel is taxable unless sold in pursuit of governmental business.

Weather summary reports last week featured scorching 104 degree highs and warm nights with on and off rain. The Fourth tied for the hottest day at 104 while the week saw rainfall totaling 1.34 inches. Tuesday brought the heaviest rain at 1.29 inches and temperatures ranged from 93 to 104 degrees across the days.

Quadruplets Plan To Enter Baylor Play the Sax

The Keyes quadruplets Mona Roberta Leota and Mary from Hollis Oklahoma will enter Baylor University next fall with dorm reservations. The sisters, the first quadruplets to finish high school together, held top honors at Hollis High School with valedictorian editor of the school paper and top home economics student. All four sing and play the saxophone.
