Brazos County A M Club Sees Barrie of Plans for 1926

At the Brazos County A and M Club meeting in College Station Friday noon President F E Lichte presided as members and guests enjoyed a luncheon. Sterling C Evans urged learning from other clubs while Bill Cook described varied meeting formats and the Houston Aggie publication. Ike Ashburn discussed attracting legislators and high school seniors to promote support for the college and proposed a Brazos County Day and a large agricultural fair. A Ladies Night was discussed and plans for a January 22 meeting in Bryan were announced with a call to invite Hal Moseley to attend.

Bryan youths Miss Mary Helen Racey and Miss Edna Earl Cummings attended the Young People’s Convention of the Southern Methodist Church in Memphis Tennessee. They prepared notes on lectures and talks to share with Bryan at the First Methodist Church Sunday night.

Homemakers and Bible Class Hostesses At West 27th Street Meet

Mrs Roy Nunn president of the Homemakers Class and Miss Maude Brown president of the Hendship Bible Class of the First Baptist Sunday school were joint hostesses Friday evening. Officers received instructions and new monthly report books were issued. The gathering featured prayers, scripture, a social tea with salad plates and refreshments, and place cards with toy balloons.

Margaret Ann Fairman Birthday Party at Long’s Cafe

Margaret Ann Fairman celebrated her ninth birthday Thursday evening at Long's Cafe. Mrs. W. F. Fairman hosted many of Margaret Ann’s friends with pink rose decorations, nut cups, and place cards. Guests received fancy caps and Hawaiian skirts as favors.

Kings Highway School Back From Holiday Break

Kings Highway Jan 9 Special to the Eagle reports school reopened Monday after a ten day vacation. Local residents enjoyed holidays with relatives across Kurten Nor mangee Edge and Dallas. Teachers and former staff visited, including Ola Henry now teaching in Montgomery.

Holiday Visits and Social Gatherings Across Nearby Towns

The report lists numerous families visiting relatives and friends over the holidays. Artie Hearne of Bryan spent New Year’s Day with the Hearnes in town. Fritz Kindt and family visited the Gerkes in Kurten. Miss Mildred Pack of Shiloh and Miss Loraine Starkey shared time together. Several parties occurred at Kindt, Kopetsky, and Corgey homes, with Jerry Novosod and Hugo Blazek visiting Frank Milberger. Additional notes mention Christmas observances at Kurten Evangelical church and visits among Milbergs, Bushes, Frame and Mims families in the area.

Miss Louise Garwood to sail for Europe on Olympic

Miss Louise Garwood leaves January 21 for New York and sails February 6 aboard the S S Olympic for a year in Paris and other European localities. She is visiting Bryan friends in the home of Mayor and Mrs Tyler Haswell.

H O Ferguson announces candidacy for re nomination as County Judge of Brazos County subject to the Democratic primary in July 1926. He asks voters to review his administration with impartiality and pledges to merit public confidence with continued service.

Tom E. Taylor Seeks Brazos County Treasurer Post

Tom F. Taylor, long time Bryan resident and former county bookkeeper, announces a candidacy for Brazos County Treasurer. Born in Alabama and moving to Texas in 1876, he lived in Bryan until a flu illness sent him to a farm northwest of the city. He emphasizes a single platform vow to perform his duties faithfully if elected.

Kinnard Promoted to County Agent in Harrison County

A. W. Kinnard Jr former Upshur county agent for four years is transferred to Marshall to become Harrison county agent, filling the vacancy caused by M. R. Martins resignation. The Gilmer Mirror notes his faithful service and cooperation with extension work, and mentions his Bryan roots and A M College education.

State Department Announces Second Class Certificates Examinations

The department publishes a statement of matters for Second Class examinations and outlines for county examinations of state certificates of the second class. It includes a schedule of subjects data on certificates of the second class high school certificates of the second class dates of examinations and test texts.
