Gambling cases decided in justice court here

Tom Curry and Alex Campbell were tried Monday in justice court before Judge J W Hamilton for participating in a gambling game at a Sugar Hill house on November 16. Each was found guilty and fined 10 dollars plus costs about 35 dollars total. appeals were filed. County Attorney Oak McKenzie prosecuted. raid by Constable H T Wheeles and Deputy Constable Frank Griffin.

Two Negroes Arrested in Regent Burglary Case

John Griffin, a Negro, was caught near Benchley and arrested by Sheriff L. FE. Morehead and Night Officer K. T. Tillis on burglary charges. He allegedly confessed to multiple local burglaries, including the Daniels store theft near Carter Creek Bridge. Caldwell officers seek two more suspects, but local officials plan to hold Griffin for trial.

Chamber of Commerce Board Reviews Advertising Rejections

Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce held its Tuesday meeting with Secretary S E Eberstadt reporting that 15 advertising men and 9 soliciting proposals were refused endorsement. President W B Bizzell spoke after returning from the Texas Teachers' convention. discussion focused on A M College issues and the state educational survey led by Dr George Works.

Girls and Boys Club Work Reorganizing in Brazos County

In Brazos County the girls and boys clubs report strong reorganization as records are compiled. At Steele's Store the girls’ school club reports 100 percent membership eligible members joined for another year. Baby dies of suffocation found in bed

Joyce Marian Campbell, two months old, was found dead in bed with her mother. Dr. verdict cites suffocation. Presbyterians Honor Pastor with Surprise Housewarming

Wednesday night the First Presbyterian church hosted a surprise pound party and house warming for Rev. and Mrs. Wm. N. Sholl in the new Sunday school annex. Congregation members presented a hamper of gifts while Mrs. Roy Danforth led piano music and a chorus entertained. Refreshments were served by church ladies.

Knights of Columbus Initiation and Banquet in Bryan

The Bryan chapter held a large event as 21 candidates from Bryan and nearby areas were initiated into the first three degrees with a Galveston team. A banquet for about 200 followed in Villa Maria Convent basement dining room with speeches by local clergy and Galveston figures, and plans to support a Catholic chapel for A and M students. Grand Knight Tom Daly presided. Rev Father Gleissner gave the invocation and benediction.

Powers Visit to Alice Highlights South Texas Fruits

Mr and Mrs W L Powers returned to Bryan after a Thanksgiving motor trip through South Texas visiting Alice Corpus Christi and Falfurrias They brought back fruit specimens including grapefruit navel orange and lemons noting a local grapefruit yield of 60 dollars per acre and a one acre grapefruit producer in Alice with showy stems of grapefruit on display at the Eagle office.

Bry an Apple Truck Hit by H T C Train at Noon

J E Batten an apple salesman of Bryan drove a truck loaded with about 10 bushels of apples into the path of the 12 28 noon H T C passenger train. The train struck the right front wheel overturning the truck but Batten escaped with only minor injuries and was cared for by railroad physician Dr C A Searcy. He praised the conductor and reported he would stay home a few days.

The Brazos County Board met November 25 at the courthouse in the office of Miss Elizabeth Curtis health nurse. Officers elected include Mrs. A M Lehdigh chairwoman and Mrs. J L Brock vice chair. next meeting December 2. October report details 11 new cases, 62 active, 82 other visits, 305 school children inspected with 166 defects found across vision eyes tonsils teeth and more.

Cotton Receipts Reach 16 698 Square Bale Equivalents

A report lists cotton receipts at Bryan warehouses through last Saturday night. Farmers' Union Warehouse shows 6 700 squares, Lawrence warehouse 8 791, Eden's warehouse 40 square bales and 2 334 round bales equivalent to 1 167 squares, totaling 16 698 in square bale equivalents.

Barn Burned at Tabor Destroys M. S. Broach’s Farm Building

A two story barn owned by M. S. Broach, of J. Gelber & Son, was destroyed by fire at his Tabor farm last night. The origin is unknown and the loss is about 2000 dollars with most coverage through a Bryan insurance agency. A nearby resident observed the blaze around 2 30 this morning. The report hints at possible county arson.
