Texas Cotton Grade and Staple Report Highlights Early Ginnings

The Texas cotton office released the first weekly report on ginnings from five of eleven districts. Sixty percent of samples were white strict middling or better, and about 62 percent measured one inch or longer in staple. Coastal districts showed strong staple length though rains affected grade in some areas. Overall, early season indicators point to good staple lengths with few unrenderable bales.

Longtime H C Boatwright Banker Dies After 54 Years Service

H C Boatwright who served the Edrington bank and later the First National Bank for fifty four years died after a long career in local banking. He held positions with the Eagle Printing company and Bryen Building and Loan, and was vice president of a local association. He was a well known financier in the state and a trusted adviser to the community.

Wool Prices Steady Fall Prospects Bright in West Texas

San Angelo Aug 14. With about 2.906 million pounds of spring wool unsold in Texas and held for higher prices, ranchers in West Texas await a fall market. Growers in better shape than years past expect a shorter fall clip as many plan to keep flocks for a 13 month cycle next spring.

Bryan couple visits Pennsylvania in mountain cottage

Dry Forces Continue Push for Prohibition in Brazos County

District director Mr Hatch urged voters to keep Brazos county dry promising protection for thousands of youths drawn from across the country. He asked Christians to rally for a square deal and praised unbiased local news coverage. Rev Young of Giddings spoke on an ongoing battle for righteousness, with Ben H Spence of Canada noted as a forthcoming speaker.

16 Cents Pound Is Being Sought For Cotton Crop

A Texas assembly in Austin formed a permanent group to push a federal code fixing 16 cents per pound as the cotton price. J F E McDonald will press federal officials in Washington, with plans to extend a plow-up campaign and provide low interest loans secured by cotton to hold crops.
