Three new UD C members join Ross Chapter on Friday

Three new names were added to the L. S. Ross Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy membership on Friday April 21 at the chapter meeting held at Mrs F L Thomas on A and M Campus. The welcome included Mrs May Foster Yeager of Wellborn Mrs Hudson Myers and Miss Lucy Harrison of Bryan.

Brazos County Couple Married at St Josephs Church

A Tuesday morning ceremony at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bryan united Miss Sophie Kuchera and Herbert Luza. The bride, fostered by Mr and Mrs Vincent Luza, and groom, a Bryan farmer, celebrated with a wedding dinner at Ed Putz’s home near College. The article also notes a Woman’s Missionary Society meeting at First Methodist with 41 attendees and various enrollments.

Bryan Reed Child Celebrates Sixth Birthday at Home

J. R. Reed, son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Reed, marked his sixth birthday with a Monday party at home. Guests joined in games and cake, and each child received a gift. Group 1 of Women’s Missionary Society Meets at Church

Group 1 of the Women’s Missionary Society of the First Methodist Church met Monday afternoon for a regular session. Members discussed upcoming outreach plans and assigned tasks for the month.

Miss Margaret Higgs Entertained With Buffet Supper

Miss Margaret Higgs, guest of Miss Marguerite Ann Fairman at the J. S. McLendon home in Waco, was honored at a fresco style buffet supper Saturday evening. Extension group hosts Sunday open house in College Station

Following a monthly Extension Service conference in College Station, Extension men and wives will attend a Sunday open house at Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Bentley’s home on South Bryan Avenue. The event honors Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Reppert’s twenty fifth anniversary and newly married Mr. and Mrs. Reed McDonald. Reception runs 2:30 to 6 o'clock.

States and Capitals Known by 2 Year Old Prodigy

Canadian April 25 Charles Hill two year old son of Mr and Mrs Charles Hill can recite the names and capitals of all states learned without training by listening to his father teach his seven year old sister Pauline. He also recounts stories from Pauline and knows every auto part by name learned at the filling station.

Abilene April 25. Uncertainties about Abilene Christian College football dates with Daniel Baker and John Tarleton are cleared up. Coach A B Morris says two open dates remain and one likely will be filled by a conference game to meet league championship requirements.

Winnie Ruth Judd Threatens Self After Insanity Verdict

Florence Arizona April 25 Winnie Ruth Judd the self confessed killer of two women threatened to kill herself during a visit by her mother to the state prison quarters where Judd awaited transfer to the State Hospital for the Insane at Phoenix The eight day sanity hearing ended with a verdict of insanity saving her from hanging and the mother said the dispute arose over family matters and a brother not visiting. She accused Burton McKinnell of circulating pamphlets in Phoenix.

Prison escape witness recalls Judd case in Florence

The brother had not been in Florence for five weeks when Mrs. Judd, after saving a bar from her cell, spoke from Los Angeles about being accused of receiving a hacksaw blade used in the bar cutting. Mrs. Judd left prison at 11 20 a m to begin a trip to the state hospital in Phoenix.

City Water Well Spudded But Gear Breaks Halted Run

The new city water well was spudded Monday evening but after about 30 minutes operation 4 gear broke. Operations will be resumed later today. The well will be drilled to the 700 level and the Late Texas Company guarantees a minimum flow of 200 gallons per minute.

Life Saving Examiner Course Planned at A M College

Brazos County Chapter of the American Red Cross announced an official visit by Ned Campbell from the Midwestern Branch to conduct a life saving examiners course at the new pool on the A M College campus from May 22 to 24. The course aims to qualify candidates for appointment or reappointment as life saving examiners.

First City Case Settled In Roof Ordinance Violation

The first case filed in the City Recorder's court for a building ordinance violation was settled when M. F. Dansby paid a fine and court costs for installing a shingle roof on a rental house. The property later received a fire proof roof.
