East Texas Chamber Urges Action on Oil Overproduction

At the East Texas Chamber of Commerce annual convention in Jacksonville on April 25 Ernest L. Kurth of Lufkin was elected president. Cool Weather Delays Cotton Insect Hatching Across Texas

Two Held to Grand Jury in Whiskey Possession Case

Tony Castoria and Charles Donatella were arrested Thursday night by Chief Tillis and Constable Reed on whiskey possession charges and held to the grand jury Saturday by Justice J. T. McGee with bonds set at $500 each.

Negro Man Killed Himself on Farm Near Harvey

Jesse McCallum a 40 year old Black man living on the Forrest Jones farm near Harvey apparently shot himself in the left chest with a 12 gauge shotgun about 4 am. An inquest by Justice J T McGee suggested suicide though no verdict yet. His wife slept beside him and did not hear the shot but found him on the floor, gun beneath him. The couple had shown despondency recently and no signs of discord were found.

Bishop Quin to Visit Bryan for Confirmation Rite

Rt. Rev. C. S. Quin of Houston, bishop of the diocese of Texas, will attend St Andrew's Episcopal Church in Bryan on Sunday May 7 at 7 30 p m to administer the rite of confirmation. The Austin report shows Brazos Burleson Grimes and Robertson counties were among 67 Texas counties where liquor and beer dealers paid licenses in 1917, the year before statewide prohibition. Casey Freed In Madisonville Murder Case

A jury acquitted Casey, a prominent Northealch citizen, of murder after deliberating under ten minutes in Madisonville. The slaying of Harry Ferrier occurred on June 12, 1931, with testimony beginning Thursday afternoon. Attorneys included k A Berry of Houston and M L Bennett of Normangee for Casey.
