Highway Costs Soar in Linn County in Ten Year Span
Traffic growth and heavier loads pushed Linn County state highway maintenance costs from 49 724 in 1939 to 110 641 in 1949 an increase of 122 5 percent. Nationwide divisions show similar rises while mileage grew only 12 4 percent. Officials say aging roads and higher input costs drive expenses though efforts continue to curb spending for future road work.
