Pioneer rancher of Waller County dies at 82

Dr. Boyd, 82, pioneer cattleman and farmer of Waller County, died at his son E H Boyd’s residence in Houston after illness since Saturday. Born September 4, 1851 in Louisiana, he lived in Waller 43 years before moving to Houston. Survived by two sons C L Boyd and E H Boyd, and two daughters Nora Alexander and Mrs W H Walston, 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral held at his son’s home with Rev A B Haynes. burial in Forest Park cemetery.

Haak Family Summer Visit Across Goose Creek Laporte

W H Haak and family spent last week in Goose Creek and Laporte with friends and relatives then visited Houston to see uncle Bill Spriggs and family. Elia Trusk underwent an operation last Saturday and is recuperating. The trip included visits to Hempstead Waller Needville and Needville for various errands and family time.

Mrs Seidel Hosts Missionary Society Meeting

Mrs Hugo Seidel hosted the Methodist Missionary Society at its last regular meeting with eleven members attending. Plans for the coming year were discussed and a box for the Orphans Home in Waco was arranged before the holidays. The retiring president Mrs W D Mills was honored with a gift shower as thanks for her service.

Road Work Starts in Brookshire Pattison Area

Twenty five men are employed in the precinct with CWA funds. Only one project approved a lateral road near Pattison. Additional projects will follow, including the Iron Creek bridge, to employ ten to fifteen men. Payroll now around four hundred dollars weekly. Subscribe for The Times.
