Coach Russ Deason watched as Curly Vieth replaced an injured Steve Little to anchor Oak Park Oak Park Lions in the 880 relay at Champaign. Vieth’s pinch hitting and Dean McKown’s strong leg carried Oak Park to a 1:34.1 finish, their first state title since 1915, with high jump standout Curly also saving a tie for fourth.
