Thousands of Army veterans are urged to reenlist before November 20 in the peacetime Volunteer Army. Veterans discharged between May 12 and November 1 may return with their prior act, while those with six months service can gain private first class on reenlistment. Regular Army discharge after November 1 allows keeping current grades if they enlist within 20 days and by February 1, 1946. The new law promises pay, food, housing, medical care, travel, furlough, education in nearly 200 trades, and a lifelong retirement after 20 years.
The notice outlines new enlistment terms for 1 to 3 year terms with 1 year for men with six months service. Reenlistees retain grades under set dates. It boosts reenlistment bonuses to 50 dollars per year of service plus 20 percent overseas pay and paid furlough. Mustering-out pay, retirement options after 20 or 30 years, GI Bill benefits, family allowances, and choices of branch and theater are included with a 5 percent pay rise every three years.
