Christmas Seal History Told By Sale Chairman

Mrs. N G Herreshoff, Bristol Christmas Seal Committee chairwoman, outlined the 1945 sale under the Bristol District Nursing Association to fund tuberculosis control. She traced the seal's tradition and emblem, noted designers including Park Phipps, and recalled Miss Emily Bissell’s 1907 origin, urging community support for the crusade.

The Gingerbread Boy Operetta at St Marys School

Tickets are on sale for the Gingerbread Boy operetta by Children of the Primary Grades at St Marys School in the auditorium. Performances are Sunday Nov 25 at 2 30 p m and Monday Nov 26 at 8 00 p m with guest artists Eddie McKenna Marion Millikin Pegy Pomoransky and Robert Hargraves. Admission Sunday is twenty five cents for children.

Salaries Scrutinized as Teachers Transfer in Wartime

The School Committee debated reductions for two transfers from higher paid wartime posts to lower grade positions. Major Capone will teach science at the senior high for 2225 plus 100. Joseph Securo to Reynolds School at 1600 plus 100. Russo moved from senior high to Guiteras at 1950 plus 100, down from 2285. Canon Parshley urged higher pay citing by law. others supported fixed schedules.

Senior Canteen At Y To Open Saturday

Hubert F Hill of the local YMCA announced two canteens this year. The Senior Canteen for ages 15 and over opens Saturday with dancing mass games and special features. Refreshments include cider doughnuts and candy.

D A R Bristol Chapter Plans Holiday Activities and Donations

The Bristol DAR met to donate to Kate Duncan Smith School in Alabama and to plan a Christmas party for the Bristol Home for Aged Women plus a dress contest by Girl Homemakers. Dresses by Warren, Barrington and Bristol girls will win three prizes: local, state, and national. Mrs. James Carmak spoke. hostesses included Mrs. Simmons and others. The State conference is set for March.

Revival of pre war BTA standards leads Bristol drive

Captain Louis R Falco and First Sergeant Henry W Pacheco lead a Bristol Train of Artillery membership drive to revive pre war standards. They seek 50 new members from Bristol Warren and Barrington with training in manual of arms field artillery and summer maneuvers at the State street Armory each Wednesday evening under Colonel Hambrick. Sergeant Pacheco is a World War II naval veteran.

Christmas Lighting Solved by Church Offers for Common

The Community Christmas Observance Committee gains electric lights from Our Lady of Mt Carmel and St Elizabeths to encircle the Common and light crosswalks. A 30 foot cedar donated by Harry DeW Allen will be illuminated. The group plans bids for erection and seeks community donations to fund tableaux and carol singing.

Town Council Meets to Address Building Code Dispute and War Memorial

Town Council will hold a regular evening meeting with Building Inspector Otis M Bailey Sr attending to settle the dispute between Roger Pigeon and Joseph Borges over a building code violation. Also on the agenda are plans for a war memorial, the planning board platting ordinance, and other departmental items.
