Campaign Sidelights From Banquet Speaker
Dr Samuel D. Clark described experiences as a North Burma medical officer in World War II at the Armistice Day banquet of Kearney Post 6 American Legion. He recalled sleepless shifts, mobile surgical units near front lines, hunting with dynamite bait and jeep trains, heavy rain, and rare encounters with so called skirts. The event featured other Legion leaders and Auxiliary officers with toastmaster Daniel Coggeshall introducing commanders and spouses.

Armistice Day silence idea traced to Edward Honey
The piece details Edward Honey in London proposing a five minute pause to honor fallen soldiers after World War I. Reaction from Sir Percy Fitzpatrick and King George V led to a two minute silence. It notes Honey’s later obscure death and contrasts business leaders’ humanity with public perception.
