Old-Fashioned Bazaar Aims to Fund Bristol 1934 July 4

The State Street Armory hosts a two night bazaar to fund Bristol’s 1934 Fourth of July celebration. Local merchants donated all merchandise for sale while Pearl Dion of Providence performs and a Bristol orchestra provides dancing music. The Fourth of July observance committee urges citizens to attend and donate.

Providence Music Festival Showcases Public School Bands and Orchestras

The Providence Public School Department presents the combined senior high school bands and orchestras with 75 advanced elementary players at Benedict Memorial Hall in Roger Williams Park Sunday at 6 pm. Governor Green will greet attendees while Dr. Butterfield directs, with conductors from several high schools assisting. admission is free and past years drew over 20,000 music lovers.

Kearney Post to Meet for Legion Session in Grand Army Hall

Kearney Post No. 6 American Legion holds its monthly meeting in Grand Army Hall. The committee reports on the anniversary observance. Brighton Rector Receives Testimonial After Resignation

Rev. Albert C. Larned of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church Brighton, who resigned due to poor health after eight years, was honored with a testimonial reception in St. Margaret's Hall Eastburn street. The couple will near their 27th wedding anniversary and were presented a wedding cake by Walter Emery senior warden.

Farewell to Rev Fr Larned in Brighton Parish History

On behalf of parishioners and friends, Alpheus White presented Rev Fr Larned a purse of money as he gave his farewell address after eight years as rector. Mrs Larned received a gift from Mrs Walter Emery. Fr Larned resigned due to a nervous breakdown and will depart June 1 to rest in Bristol, planning rural work in fall. He led the Allston Brighton Kiwanis and served as chaplain of Brighton Allston Post A L. He was born in Providence, educated in England, ordained in Winchester Cathedral in 1908, served in Guernsey and Newport, then Bristol and Bar Harbor, with WWII chaplaincy and later rector of St David's Cranston before Brighton.

Bristol Honors War Dead With Memorial Day Parade

Bristol held a Memorial Day parade and exercises with diverse uniforms and contingents including Civil War veterans, World War II and Spanish American War veterans, Boy and Girl Scouts, and the Navy. The procession, led by officials and police, passed to cemeteries for wreaths and culminated at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument with tributes, speeches, and a waterfront observance.

Fire officials seek 1000 gallon pumper amid vote reversal

A petition by a majority of the Board of Fire Engineers and company foremen urges the purchasing committee to reconsider its last vote, backing a 1000 gallon pumper. The committee meeting was postponed due to attendance, while Fire Chief Robert J. Anderson shifted from supporting 1000 gallons to backing a 750 gallon Maxim-made pumper after a 3 3 deadlock with the Seagraves and Ahrens Fox proposals.

Aniello Maisano Remembered At Bristol Obsequies

Hundreds of Bristol residents from all walks of life attended the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church service for Aniello Maisano 81 a founder of the Princes Elena Lodge and early Italian immigrant leader. The high requiem mass was celebrated by Rev Fr Sorzano with Deacon Rev Fr Gillan and Sub-deacon Rev Fr Barrows. A funeral cortege of over one hundred cars accompanied the hearse to St Marys Cemetery as Floral tributes and spiritual bouquets marked a large community honoring a charitable leader.

Benefit Concert Repeats Triumph by Bristol Band

Printing Price Fixes Set in Nationwide Code

Price fixing for job printing is established via an order to the Graphic Arts Code issued April 27 and effective May 4. A price schedule by Code committees sets minimum charges for all printing nationwide, distributed through regional Graphic Arts Code boards to printers and publishers. In Rhode Island the Code Authority handles distribution with several members, coordinated with the New York Printers Association.
