Kearney Post Honored for Distinguished Service
Kearney Post No. 6 American Legion receives the national Certificate of Distinguished Service for 1945 46 with 900 of 1000 points. The post sponsored junior baseball Sea Scout Ship flag education and more, aided veterans and community groups, held parades and observances, and expanded youth and welfare programs. Membership rose from 123 in 1944 to 357 in 1945 with a 1946 quota of 531.

St Mary's CYO announces a Sadie Hawkins Dance tomorrow night at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Prizes include best costume awards for boys and girls, door prizes of fur mittens for girls, and tie clasps for boys. Patrons are Mr and Mrs Adolphe Ferreira, Mr and Mrs Norman Vermette, Mr and Mrs George Vona, and Mr and Mrs Andrew Francis.

Welfare Director Jos. J. Marshall Dies in Bristol
Joseph J. Marshall longtime public welfare director died today at a Providence hospital after weeks of illness. A 54 year old Bristol native and World War I veteran he served with the 77th Division and belonged to several local and state groups. He is survived by his wife Cecelia and two grandchildren. Funeral services are planned from his brother in law Henry Miranda’s home before a 10 o'clock mass at St Elizabeth Church.

Trio Fined in South District Court for Carrying a Concealed Weapon
Frank R. Sousa of 19 Franklin Street was fined 25 dollars and costs after pleading guilty to carrying a concealed weapon. Sousa, his brother Edward S. Rapoza, and James Barboza of 170 Thames Street were also fined 10 dollars and costs for revelry at a Bristol Police Station session after a dispute at the Colonial Hotel Bar.
