Bristol Community Christmas Tree on the Common

The Bristol Mothers' Club plans a Community Christmas Tree on the common next Monday evening. Samuel Kinder & Bro., florists, ordered a tall well shaped tree to be placed north of the band stand near the Community flag pole. Church choirs and school children will sing carols under Fred M. Straight, led by Judge F. H. Hammill as chair of the tree committee.

Davis to Leave for France as Y M C A Red Triangle Worker

Wendell R. Davis longtime purchasing agent at National India Rubber Company volunteers for Red Triangle work in France. After passing New England exams he traveled to New York to receive his assignment and plans a one year leave starting January 2. Walter F Greenup will fill his role during absence.

Red Cross Urges Window Flags Over Candles Christmas Eve

The Red Cross campaign HQ urges members to display membership flags in windows on Christmas Eve and avoid using candles to illuminate them. The National Board of Fire Underwriters backs this, citing fire risk. Use a raised shade to light the room and keep the flag visible safely.

Woman Injured by Fall Near Colt Memorial High School

Mrs Lenora E Farr widow of Capt Herbert L Farr slipped on an icy sidewalk in front of Colt Memorial High School around 10 am Wednesday and sustained a broken left shoulder. She was taken home by a Herreshoff Manufacturing Company auto with Drs Siegel and Teller attending. later moved to St Joseph's Hospital Providence for X rays and splints. Doctors report she rests comfortably and may return home Monday for Christmas.

Stuart recommended for government rubber inspections posts

John G. Stuart, after years in rubber factory work at National India Rubber Company, is recommended by Vice President George Schlosser for U S Government rubber factory inspector or office positions with the rank of First Lieutenant or Captain. He left for Washington to interview Major E D Kremer of the Gas Defence Service.

Successful Red Cross Drive Reaches 2000 Members

The Red Cross campaign led by Mrs. William T. O'Donnell shows strong town support with over 2000 members by Wednesday night. Factory contributions from Rubber Company and National India Rubber Company plus Herreshoff Manufacturing and Janston Worsted Mills will boost the total, as workers collect at the post office and plan a final push at the Y M C A. The drive ties into a Christmas Eve illumination using red cross banners to project goodwill from 7 30 to 9 o'clock across Rhode Island and the nation.

Burnside Lodge Knights of Pythias Holds Weekly Convention

Burnside Lodge No 34 Knights of Pythias met Wednesday evening with Warren Lodge members in attendance. Page and Esquire degrees were conferred on two candidates and officer nominations for next year were held. A chowder was served after the meeting, sponsored by Chancellor Commander T Edgar Sutcliffe.

Bay State Street Railway Cuts Newport Fall River Service

Due to a coal shortage the Bay State Street Railway Company reduces Newport to Fall River trains. Morning service remains every 40 minutes until 8 am, then hourly until 3:30 pm, then every 40 minutes until 6 pm, after which hourly service resumes for the rest of the day.
