War Welfare Committee Sends 214 Boxes to Bristol Men in Service

The Bristol War Welfare Committee reports sending two hundred fourteen two pound confectionery boxes to Bristol men in the army in France training in the United States and naval service. Boxes went to Fort Rodman Camp Devens Camp Gordon Camp Charlotte and Fort Greble with Christmas cards from the Old Town. Letters from sailors in the U S S Salem praise the gifts and the committee's thoughtfulness.

Christmas gifts from estate to Bristol and Newport groups

James H. White’s will left six organizations, including Thames Street M E Church and Newport Historical Society, $100 each. The remainder, totaling $19,383.06, was divided equally, granting four Bristol groups 3,416.62 each and the others 3,316.62 each after expenses. George W. Bacheller Jr. administered the estate and distributed the funds to Rogers Free Library, Home for Destitute Children, Home for Aged Women, State Street M E Church, Thames Street M E Church, and the Newport Historical Society.

Red Cross Relief Ships to Europe Deliver Heavy Aid

Red Cross relief shipments to Europe average more than 10000 tons monthly. One consignment included 559 soccer balls and 250 rugby balls for American soldiers, bought with funds raised by Harvard graduates.

Bristol Women Exceed Red Cross Quota By Big Margin

Bristol’s Red Cross membership drive far surpassed the goal with about 25 percent overage. Led by Mrs. William T. O'Donnell and teams from National India Rubber Company and other factories, the week’s receipts totaled 3152 dollars with an additional 140 after Saturday. The drive featured a busy lobby booth at the post office selling Christmas stamps and tallied strong gains across multiple teams and captains.
