New High Sea Limits for International Law Drafted
The Geneva Commission of International Jurists weighs four projects on territorial waters at its session. Proposals align with the American Institute of International Law for codification, outlining a coast-sinuosity rule for territorial seas, bay exceptions, and jurisdiction extending to an adjacent marine mile. It allows maritime nations to occupy high seas near their shores for fixed bases while forbidding fortification for military aims.
