Texas Horse Racing Referendum Reveals Voter Apathy
Texas voters largely ignored the pari mutuel racing issue in the May 5 primaries. Propositions 1 and 2 failed to win statewide by over 100,000 votes, with more than 1.4 million ballots cast but about 312,000 voters not voting on the issue. Arthur Seeligson Jr. cited poor campaigning and machine placement as factors, noting many voters did not read or see the racing questions. Pro-racing leaders plan a permanent HQ and further meetings in July to push for legalization.

Roach and ant season declines cited in health briefing
A health official notes a sharp drop in local cases after September 1, attributing it to the roach and ant season peak passing and exterminators pausing thallium use to avoid detection. Dr Hubler recommends a pull test to check hair loss and urges medical consultation if two or more hairs come out.
