Longtime Capitol pilot B W Thompson battles policy shifts
W C Thompson, a 72 year old former Plainview man, now pilots an elevator in the Capitol after a 16 year stay in Washington begun after a 1942 Christmas visit. He worked at the Senate Post Office to help wartime manpower needs through various jobs, then remained in government service as political tides shifted. He was born near Tillsboro, lived in Arlington, Oklahoma, and cast his first vote for Oklahoma statehood. He plans to hear both sides before weighing Hawaii and Alaska statehood.
