Montreal Union Depot Plan Draws Rail Giants
A Sept. 25 despatch reports talks between Grand Trunk and Canadian Pacific to build a Montreal union depot at city center. Cost estimated 600000 to 700000 pounds with a 200000 dollar city bonus. Van Horne says Montreal’s railway mileage will double this year and a St Paul Minneapolis line could route traffic from Wisconsin Minnesota Dakota and Nebraska to Montreal if handling is cheap. Antwerp is cited as a model and Montreal’s system may grow more this year and next than in the previous thirty years.
