Nat Johnson, nephew of ex Governor John son, shot and killed Ben Grady in Nelsonville Kentucky. The killing stemmed from the Robertson Montgomery congressional race. Grady and Jim Smith attacked Johnson. Johnson shot Grady through the brain and fired at Smith, who fled.
Dr. Smith Buttermore of Fayette county, jailed in Harrisburg for attempting to defraud the state with a bogus hospital, is suspected of a chloral overdose. He was very ill Friday, and the prison physician will monitor his condition closely.
The grand jury in Port land Missouri indicts cashier William E Gould for December 13 1884 embezzling treasury notes valued at 14275 and making false entries to conceal the fraud. This is the sole offense in the indictment.
