Washington Officials See No New Opportunities in Talks
Some Washington officials feel the United States has made its position clear through Lind’s parleys and Wilson’s address to Congress. They deem further negotiations useless and merely delaying. There is a willingness to receive Senor de Zamacona due to Lind’s courtesy. His main link with Mexico has been financial work, and his mission may push peace talks and urge a loan backed by the American government. He previously managed Mexico’s European finances and was ambassador to the United States in 1911, gaining diplomatic popularity.
