The 11th attempt to lift the America's Cup ends in defeat for Shamrock as Columbia dominates the three race series. In a brutal 30 mile windward return, Columbia gains 6 minutes 34 seconds over Shamrock, with wind and seas driving the contest into a famous American triumph.
Mrs Andrew Watt a young wife and mother drowned her five months old baby in a bath tub in a fit of insanity and then tried to cut her wrists. She was found in time to stop the blood flow and is expected to live. Married about eighteen months she had a history of fits of insanity and feared harming her child.
Martin Johnston aged 50 of Augusta Maine walked into the water last evening at the Summer street express draw while intoxicated. He was rescued and taken to City Hospital after John Dunne and Joseph Mac Namara alerted Patrolmen J A O Neil and Eagan. With a rope and rowboat the four saved him, though he was exhausted and rolled to revive him.

A steamer collided with the Gloucester fishing schooner Two Forty near Castle Island causing four deaths. Bodies recovered include Neil Brooks. others remain missing or unlocated. Rescued sailors were Ernest Stevens Nicholas Beaudreau Patrick Ryan Bruce Lloyd Grafton Godfrey Jesse James and George Brown. The wreck occurred at 6 20 last night as divers and a lifeboat crew try to recover the remaining victims.
