Parcel post praised as a big success in Boston district
Postmaster Edward C. Mansfield told New England Shoe Wholesalers at Young's Hotel that parcel post has reduced breakage with better packing and labeled sacks. He predicted higher weight limits and noted 12,766,587 parcels moved in nine months across 79 stations serving 1,400,040 people, with 67 percent by carrier and the rest by team. Average delivery cost was about a cent and a half per package.
