Joseph Knowles, a native son, arrived by Maine Central train to a welcoming Wilton crowd on October 7. An older couple in a car watched, unsure at first, as Knowles appeared in a striking transformation with piercing gray eyes and a remarkable change in appearance amid the town’s throng.

An accident at the head of Lake Keuka disrupted an airshow planned by Reachey who intended a somersault in the air. A large crowd gathered and Misses Hildreth and the navy officers climbed a small building used as aviator headquarters for a better view.
