Seven men were rescued after the Boston schooner Frank B Witherbee sank in a collision with the steamship City of Atlanta off Cape Hatteras. The City of Atlanta's lifeboat crew, led by First Officer L G Dalzell, saved the men who clung to a section above water. Three passengers aboard the City of Atlanta were women, including Mrs. E A Redmond of Lynn and Mrs. William M Peters and daughter Melba of Somerville.
