Wolf Grounds at Plymouth harbor after running aground

The British steamer Wolf ran aground at the harbor edge while outbound to Baltimore. Tugs from Boston freed her and she floated at a late hour. She anchored for the night and will proceed in the morning.

New York officials announced that Mrs. Ella Fleming of Los Angeles and her two daughters, arriving from Europe, failed to declare clothing and merchandise valued at 2496 dollars. The declared amount was 465 dollars. She faces arraignment before a United States commissioner tomorrow as customs holds her baggage and that of her daughter.

Sir Robert Ball Dies in England at 73

Cambridge England November 25 Sir Robert Stawell Ball Lowndean professor of astronomy at the university died here today aged 73 Born in Dublin in 1840 he studied at Trinity College and after graduation in 1865 he became private astronomer to the Earl of Rosse, a pioneer investigator of stellar spectra and nebulae.

Ball One of Ireland's Royal Astronomers and Popularizer

Nine years after a prior appointment Ball became astronomer royal of Ireland and held the post until 1892 before moving to the university professorship. Knighted in 1886, he popularized astronomy through works such as The Story of the Heavens and The High Heavens and wrote widely for magazines. In 1892 he entered geology with Cause of the Ice Age, defending Kepler's Law of Equal Areas though the ice theory has since fallen from favor. his pamphlet remains a notable concise exposition.
