Newfoundland Aims to Renew Fisheries Pact with United States
Newfoundland, after Liberal victory led by Robert Bond, plans to reopen talks on a fishery treaty with the United States. The prior Blaine-Bond pact of 1890 let Newfoundland products enter U S duty free while U S fishers worked near the coast, a balance now contested by Nova Scotia fishermen and Canadian supply concerns. The Laurier government may ease restrictions, but critics fear the renewal would shift advantage to the United States and affect Newfoundland's market.

Cotton Floats In Harbor As New England Mills Demand Freight
Regular coasting lines deliver vast cotton shipments to Boston and East Coast ports from New York Savannah and the South. The San Marcos from Galveston carries 5100 bales and Algiers from New Orleans about 5000 bales await unloading at an East Boston pier. Stevedores Quinn Bros move the cargo while vessels shift to the eastern pier due to packed wharves.
