Recount of Ward 8 GOP ballots sparks oath affidavits

Two Republican caucus supervisors John B. T. Saunders and James B. Smith swear more ballots were cast than counted at Wells School House Ward 8. Election officials announce recounts in 17 wards, starting at 2 pm in Room 1 Old Court House, with Ward 8 to be recounted fully.

Armor contract for Krupp armor awarded to Carnegie and Bethlehem

Secretary Long announced a large contract for Krupp armor at $420 a ton with possible royalities, totaling over $11.9 million for 24, tons covering 17 ships. The government may pay up to $456.52 a ton including Harvey royalties and license fees, with adjustments for royalties. The deal includes one year price reductions and notes Midvale’s withdrawal, while Admiral O Neil called the agreement satisfactory and reasonable.

Adams Couple to Mark Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs C Henry Adams of Meredith Street Newton Highlands near Boston will celebrate fifty years of marriage tomorrow. They are friends of the Littlefields of Chelsea who recently observed a similar anniversary. Adams, 73, remains a sign painter at 37 Edinboro Street and has long invested in real estate, building the street he lives on named for Meredith New Hampshire. Mrs Adams, born the same year near Sheepscot Bridge Maine, mother was visiting, Mary Ford Parker their daughter. The pair say they met by accident when Adams fell 35 feet in a building accident and a table companion across from him introduced them after dinner, leading to marriage within a year.

Hotel keeper fined for illegal sale of liquor in Cambridge

In the Third District Court Cambridge yesterday Edgar G Houck proprietor of Porters Hotel was found guilty by Judge Almy of illegal liquor sales. He was fined 100 dollars and sentenced to four months in the House of Correction. He appealed the decision and was held in 400 dollars for the Superior Court.
