Man Released From Prison Steals Baby Carriage

Mrs Mary Kelley left her baby in a carriage on Castle street while shopping. Cecil Simons recently released from state prison took the carriage and tried to sell it at a second hand dealer for a dollar. Detective Irwin arrested him as the baby was found safe on the curb. Simons was found guilty and sentenced to Deer Island for the summer and winter.

Death claims Mrs. Michnie F. Gihon of Wakefield

Mrs. Michnie F. Gihon senior vice president of the Massachusetts department of the United Spanish War Veterans Auxiliary and wife of Col Edward J. Gihon died yesterday morning after a pneumonia relapse. A prominent state figure, she founded the Mrs Edmund Rice Auxiliary and Wakefield Catholic Club and held multiple offices in veterans and women’s groups. About 3300 Boston school cadets paraded yesterday from the English High and Latin Schools to the Common. Mayor Fitzgerald and Governor Foss reviewed them with school officials as cheering crowds and sweethearts looked on. A candy raid on a Park Square drug store marred the gala day.

Swift and Connolly Arrested in Milford Riot Charge

Morrison I. Swift and Thomas G. Connolly were arrested in Milford for violating a town ordinance and inciting a riot as more than 1,000 strikers gathered at Lincoln square. Five others were jailed for the ordinance violation. Swift refused bail while Connolly posted and was later jailed briefly with Swift after a conference. The so called musical by law dates to 1905 to bar Salvation Army meetings.

In Rome on May 29 Pope Pius held his first open air audience since illness, blessing about 3000 pilgrims gathered in the Vatican courtyard. The event began at 5 pm with hymns, kneeling worshipers and silver trumpets, and lasted three minutes. The pope thanked the crowd and indicated weekly repeats.

Man Hangs Self in South End Apartment

Patrick Griffin, 55, of 24 Paris Street East Boston, hanged himself with a bed sheet from an iron grating over a door at 41 Waltham Street South End at about 7 35 last night. He was found by an attendant and cut down, but all efforts at revival failed. The body was taken to City Hospital morgue.

Twenty six pupils from Des Moines high grade schools were overcome by heat today during the folk games festival at Drake Stadium. The event proceeded with medical staff on hand as spectators watched the mild heat illness cases.
