Col on the Nile and Roosevelt associates testified that Theodore Roosevelt was not a drunkard and was notably temperate in intoxicants. They said it would be impossible for him to be intoxicated without colleagues noticing the smell on his breath.
Bristol R I May 28 Nat Herreshoff designer of successful defenders of the America's cup will likely build a candidate for next year's defence against Sir Thomas Lipton. A syndicate including former Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt and C Oliver Iselin plus other New York Yacht Club members will fund the effort. Herreshoff expressed willingness to accept a commission from the syndicate after returning from New York where he met with financiers of cup racers.
Ten days ago the Bristol designer told a New York yachtsmen committee he would not enter the defender design for next year’s challenger but now his attitude is said to have changed. A commission for a 75 foot yacht is expected here soon and it is understood Mr. Herreshoff would accept, with work to begin later in the summer.
At Hyde Park the Sturtevant Blower Works and Becker Milling Machine Company employes voted unanimously to strike at 8 am. Over 1200 of 1700 workers supported action, cheers erupting after the vote. Governor Foss, owner of the plants, reportedly plans to shut down the two facilities.
Chief of Police John F. Williams of Marblehead refuses to wear a uniform and to keep the police dog Bimbo, declaring the town’s con stable of Sandwich must supply a uniform resembling a French gendarme and wear it until the dog leaves town.
Lawrence F. Percival donated a Parisian police dog to Marblehead. The ununiformed chief Williams faced the dog’s obedience issue, leading to a split town. After debate, the chief returned the dog to Percival, who then sent it to Sandwich to be presented to its town constable.
Police statewide mobilize a massive manhunt for the hit and run driver who killed 7 year old Louis Sobell on Talbot Avenue at high speed. Authorities vow swift justice and relentless pursuit after the fatal accident.
At a special meeting Commissioners Frank L. Kent and James Synan urged vigorous action to capture the reckless driver. Police Commissioner O'Meara ordered Superintendent William H. Pierce to task all officers with finding clues to identify the autoist.
A telegram from Lapaz announced the South American party of the Boston Chamber of Commerce arrived in Lapaz after a week in Peru. The party is well and will depart for Antofagasta today.

President Wilson plans to appoint Joseph Ballister Russell of Cambridge former head of the Boston Chamber of Commerce and brother of the late Governor William F. Russell to the position of collector of the port of Boston in what is described as a major New England nomination.
