New Ferry Slip Authorized and Gloucester Water Battle Looms
Boston lawmakers push major bills including a new ferry slip project authorized for Boston, a Gloucester water controversy involving George H. Norman and the Gloucester Water Co, and a Cape Cod canal charter with strict construction deadlines. The House also passes veteran public appointment preferences and widenings of city streets, while debates over grade crossing protections continue.
Boston Debates Ferry Landing Bill Amid Debt Limit Concerns
In a Boston session, opposition by McCarthy and others argued the ferry landing bill intrudes on state policy against grade crossings and unfairly attacks corporations. The measure, backed by East Boston figures, would permit a $500,000 debt beyond the limit for a new ferry landing, but the substitute failed and the bill passed to engrossment.
