Nellie F Sawyer Towed After Grounding Near New Haven

The schooner Nellie F Sawyer under Captain Willard from Perth Amboy to Portland was beached near New Haven breakwater and floated after 50 tons of cargo were lightered. She is not leaking badly though part of the keel is missing. Divers will inspect tomorrow to assess damage and possible voyage.

Boston Bar Harbor train service upgraded with express runs

On May 19 the Boston Bar Harbor line will add express trains. The 9:00 A.M. departure from Boston Union Station with Pullman parlor cars reaches Bar Harbor at 7:15 P.M. The 7:00 P.M. departure with Pullman sleeping cars arrives at Bar Harbor at 8:15 A.M. This improves early season service.

The Carnegie Steel Company board decided last night to advance its 25 000 workers by 10 percent effective June 1. This action contradicts earlier statements after Saturday's furnace workers demand at the Edgar Thomson furnaces. It is claimed Mr Frick cabled to Andrew Carnegie in England and that the raise was first suggested by Carnegie.
