Boy's Purse Man's Pride Embezzler Sentenced in Chelsea

George H. Wheeler 19 pleaded guilty to embezzling 2200 dollars from Chandler and Co. on Sept 14 1894. An assistant bookkeeper he deposited 600 then drew 2200 for his own use touring the world before returning. Counselor urged Massachusetts Reformatory citing prior good record and temptation.

Shooting in Freedom New Hampshire Shocks Town

A May 12 shooting in Freedom New Hampshire left Mr. Harrison wounded by a young woman and an escort. The gun had loaded wads. bullets caused a skin scar but Harrison remained alive. The assailant and companion fled unseen and no charges are expected.

Satolli Replies to Petitions Over Father Phelan

The Rev J P Dawson reports Monsignor Satolli acknowledges the petition from Asbury Park and Ocean Grove Christian Endeavor societies calling for Father Phelan of St Louis to be removed. Satolli regrets the question but says the matter belongs to the Archdiocese of St Louis. Dawson will forward copies to the archbishop and may pursue higher authority if ignored.

Funeral for Amos R Barrett and new rail franchise announced

The funeral for Amos R Barrett former superintendent of motive power on the Boston and Maine was held at Perkins Street Baptist Church Somerville with road officials present and music directed by Superintendent Hatch. The West End Street Railway secures a franchise from the Boston line in Newton to Washington Street and plans a continuous thirteen mile two track line from Boston to the river with lamps and electrical displays along Washington Street.

Birth at Pike's Peak Elevation Sets Continental Record

Dr. Christopher of Colorado Springs helped carry a new son born to Mr. and Mrs. John Taggart to the summit of Pike's Peak. The Taggarts live in a section house 12 000 feet above sea level. This marks the first recorded birth at such an elevation on the continent.

Laundress Found in Gas Exposure at Adams House

Mary Ross, 50, longtime head laundress at the Adams House, was found in a nearly asphyxiated condition from escaping gas in her room at 7 yesterday morning. She was taken to City Hospital in a critical state with consciousness not regained by night. The accident occurred from failing to turn off a drop light supply at a gas bracket, gas escaping through a leaky rubber tube.

William A. Stewart, a young man of color, is under arrest at Station 16 for breaking and entering the apartments of Charles F. Crowell at 382 Newbury Street last week. A silver watch and cash were stolen from Ingrid Akerson, whose watch was found on Stewart during arrest.

Pelted with Pie A Local Pie Attack Tale in Boston

On Monday at a Prince street bakery in the North End Boston three West End gallants bought aged pies and pelted two youths in Hanover street. A policeman named Wolf pursued and captured two while the third escaped. Names given were Frank McKenna John Kelley George Burnett and John Bursend. Court amused as pie assault noted as first of its kind in city annals.

Hotel Men's Mutual Benefit Association Holds New York Convention

The sixteenth annual Hotel Men's Mutual Benefit Association convened in Delmonico's banquet hall with over 400 delegates. Benjamin H. Yarli of Spring Lake was elected president and George W. Lynch of San Diego first vice president. Walter Barnes was re-elected secretary and treasurer. Chicago slate named for remaining vice presidents and directors. A Waldorf banquet followed, with a formal menu and a theatre outing by Palmer's Theatre entourage in the evening. Tomorrow features sight-seeing and a banquet for the men with theatre outings for the ladies.

Oil painting theft arrest shocks city

Hugh McIntosh aged 23 of 382 Parker Street was arrested by Officers Lynch and Gad for allegedly stealing a $1000 oil painting from Charles P. George of the Hotel Edinboro. Police say McIntosh had a lien on the flower piece and fled with a companion to George’s home last week. a house search found no painting and he refuses to reveal where it is hidden.

Hagadon Captured After Brief Flight From Court

John C Hagadon was captured by Constable Blatt on Worcester square and jailed in Charles Street Prison. He fled from a March 21 Municipal Court judgment for 286 dollars to L J Adams, avoiding the poor debtor oath, then was recaptured with a posse and remanded for examination of his assets.

Divorce case hinges on newly found evidence motion

In the Superior Court a motion by the libellant for a vacation and rehearing of the Shurtleff v Grace L W Shurtleff decree rests on an affidavit from Delia Furey claiming she saw Harry Healey hug Dr. Fred C Shurtleff on the first night of service and that the pair were often together. Healey and Grace L W Shurtleff deny the statements. The judge reserved ruling on the motion.
