John Parker of Dolmes Road shot and killed a burglar about 2 15 this morning after the man believed to be James King rifled an ice box of food in the Parker home a mile and a half south of Pittsfield. Mrs Parker woke to ice box noises and a bottle breaking on the cellar floor before seeing the man crawling from the hatchway.
Hurriedly waking her husband he retrieves a .38 revolver and fires into the air to deter a burglar fleeing toward Pittsfield. The man keeps running, and Parker, in night clothes, fires again when the assailant allegedly points a weapon.
Mrs. George A. Hibbard widow of Boston’s former mayor will play Mrs. Crane the militant suffragette in The Commuters at the Majestic. Suffragette leaders in Greater Boston helped persuade her to return to acting and she is famed for her votes for women advocacy.
Levi Perrault of 211 Fletcher street drowned when a sailboat capsized during a squall on Long Pond near Lowell. A second man swam to shore unharmed. body not recovered. Perrault leaves a wife and two children.
At the White House President Taft issued a personal statement denying that Major Archibald W. Butt, the President's military aide who perished with the Titanic, was sent to Rome on any mission for the President to the Vatican. The statement also refutes religious targeting and accusations of undue Catholic favoritism.
The speaker states official policy to treat all churches impartially in the Philippines and recounts a 192 visit to Rome to confer with Pope Leo XIII over the Friarland controversy. He notes granting Major Butt a letter of introduction for a papal audience during a health trip.
Miss Annie Walker 55 of 15 Bond Street, South End, burned while extinguishing a rug fire on a third floor oil stove. She delayed hospital care to find her cat Spotty, who returned with a mouse and prompted treatment. Property owned by W P Fisk, damage about 25 dollars.

Dr Edwin H Place superintendent of the South Department led a volunteer fire brigade of nurses internes and staff to extinguish a small blaze in the laundry of the South Department on Massachusetts Avenue yesterday afternoon. The fire was put out before the city fire department arrived and no patients were alarmed.
Henry M. Witter Jr. 42, a married man, was found by his father in the rear garage with a bullet wound to the temple. He died about 30 minutes later. Medical Examiner Frederick H. Baker ruled the death a self inflicted act.
In Washington on May 12 Mrs. Louise Bankhead Perry daughter of Senator and Mrs Bankhead of Alabama married Arthur Graves Lund of Boston at the Arlington. The couple plans a summer trip to England after a honeymoon. Lund is a Boston publishing house manager and Massachusetts State Board of Education staffer. He belongs to the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company with several related trips.
Cyrus H. McCormick of Chicago, Princeton trustee, donates 25000 to the champion Tiger football eleven. He suggests 5000 for a gateway at University Field replacing Thompson gateway, with the rest likely toward building a stadium. His son played in the Harvard game.
The condition of ex Mayor Green remains critical, with reports noting he has not improved despite a prior report that he was resting comfortably. Relatives fear a sudden decline could occur at any time.
Clarence V. T. Richeson faced a final sanity test as three alienists appointed by Governor Foss questioned him at the Charles Street jail. The experts from Taunton Boston and Waverley Insane Hospitals evaluated his mental condition after seven hours on the rack.
Richeson endured a prolonged inquisition as three alienists tested his reflexes with needles, eye movements, and gymnastic drills. They questioned him about affairs and family while observing his responses and utterance. The session ended with Richeson returning to his cell, awaiting further examinations.
A car crashed into a pole in an unspecified location and authorities fear two people may die. Fire and emergency crews responded to the scene as investigators begin examining the wreckage and cause.
Five people were hurled from a rapidly moving auto when it overturned at Adams and Elm streets in Braintree on May 12. Two occupants are probably fatally injured and several others suffer cuts and bruises.
Mrs. McGurn and James H. Spaulding were hurled against a wall when Spaulding's car skidded and overturned on Adams Street near Elm. Both are unconscious at Quincy Hospital with internal injuries. Mrs. McGurn has a possible broken breastbone and lung injury.
Percy Cliff son of a Somerville builder escaped serious injury when his car skidded on the Mystic Valley parkway yesterday. It shot over an embankment, turned turtle, and splashed to within feet of the Mystic River. Cliff leaped from the car as it toppled and landed in the roadway face down. He was cut and bruised. the car was wrecked.
