Reginald A. Fessenden, inventor of wireless telegraph instruments at the core of the National Electric Signalling Co, received damages of 406 175 in a U S District Court case before Judge Dodge for breach of contract.
Fessenden sought 3300009 with interest from July 1, 1908, for services as general manager and for inventor credits on instruments now under control of the company. He was praised as a wireless pioneer by Elihu Thomson and built a Brant Rock station after ten years of study. Born October 6, 1866 in Bolton Quebec, he trained at Trinity College School and pursued electrical engineering.
London papers report J Bruce Ismay plans an endowment to pension disabled seamen of all White Star line classes and their widows. The fund, described as a memorial to Titanic crew heroism, is expected to total about 190000 dollars.
Thomas Hutchinson a 45 year old resident of 94 Chatham Street Wynn was seriously injured yesterday afternoon at North Station when struck by the engine of an incoming train He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with a fractured nose right ankle and severe head injuries occurring after alighting from a train
President Taft denounces Theodore Roosevelt as an intense and dangerous egotist and demagogue. He warns of peril if Roosevelt gained power and accuses him of vanity and misrepresentation. Taft cites Lincoln and condemns flattering rhetoric in Cambridge, Ohio.
In Steubenville Taft launched his last Ohio tour with a speech denouncing Theodore Roosevelt. He urged Ohio voters to back him in the May 21 primaries, delivering vigorous, uncomplimentary critiques of his predecessor.
A stubborn attic fire at Dr. William De Friez’s 587 Washington Street Brookline caused over 3000 in damage. The blaze confined to partitions, destroying a building corner before being controlled. origin undetermined. Valuable paintings were moved to nearby Mr. Snow’s home as a precaution.
In New Bedford on May 18 an unknown man died in a fire that damaged a Pearl Street boarding house. Two other occupants were injured during the blaze that broke out early today.
Victor Louis Mason, American mining interests figure and former secretary to General Alger and Elihu Root, was killed with English aviator E. V. Fisher during a Brooklands exhibition. The monoplane dived from about 150 feet after an abrupt turn, tossing Fisher and Mason from the craft.
Fisher and Mason died in a plane crash when the aeroplane suddenly halted and caught fire. Both men died almost immediately. an inquest is expected. Mason, of Passaic New Jersey, was a former aide to General Alger and Secretary Root, with mining interests and Western campaign ties, survived by a wife Daisy Comstock Simons and three children.

Edward Smith of Thirty-eighth and Locust streets a Wharton School junior at the University of Pennsylvania was arrested after performing a turkey trot and Highland fling on a street corner at Thirty-sixth and Woodland. Magistrate Harris sentenced him to five days in county prison after a hearing by Policeman Holland.
The Interstate Commerce Commission begins an inquiry into the rates classifications and regulations of the New York New Haven Hartford Boston and Maine and Maine Central railroads amid complaints that rates are unjust unreasonable discriminatory and prejudicial. The inquiry order has been drawn up and served on the railroads.
August Langner imprisoned at Charlestown since 1892 for the murder of Miss Mary Emerson of West Dedham in 1891 seeks a pardon from life sentence. Governor Foss will likely refer the application to the council at the regular meeting tomorrow after several prior denials.
A jury was impaneled in Sailem on May 13 to try John J Breen son of a former Lawrence mayor. He faces charges of placing dynamite at mills to pin blame on strikers and of sympathy with mill owners and attempts to influence public opinion against the workers.
Theodore Roosevelt will campaign in South Dakota to win 10 delegates to the Republican national convention. He plans a flying visit on June 1 and will spend the day there, with Taft and LaFollette also expected to visit. The state primary is scheduled for June 4.
