Senator John B. Dolliver of Iowa assailed Republican leader Aldrich in a Senate speech on May 4, criticizing tariff policy. The dispute followed a clash over the woolen schedule a week earlier, marking a sharp public tilt between the two Republicans.
An Iowa Senator quoted from memory a claim that Aldrich and Flint of California said government experts drew certain Dingley bill schedules rather than the finance committee. Aldrich protested misquotation and Dolliver challenged the statement as false. The debate continued as readers moved to Page 2.
May 4 report says Charles W. Webster, 65, a self described Grand Army veteran, is sought for robbing Anna Beaumont of Lee who paid him $200 to marry her. He arrived with Civil War credentials and stayed with Mrs. Frank Call while meeting Mrs. Beaumont, a widow with about $400.
A newlywed couple, Webster and his bride, married at St. George's Episcopal Church on April 24 and left for Boston. En route near Fitchburg the groom took $400 into a smoker and vanished. Rev. Moore found Webster had misrepresented his marital history and claiming 17 children.
An underground lake between Kosciusko and Wabash counties broke through today in Silver Lake Indiana, flooding the highway to 20 feet deep for over 100 yards. The water fills with eyeless fish and marks an unexpected geologic outflow.
John Lobban aged 64, superintendent on the third floor of the Baker mill in Dorchester, was crushed between the elevator and wall on the building’s third floor. Workers freed him after breaking wall and sawed the elevator end. he leaves a wife and seven children.

Portland Maine May 4 A trade organization with members from every New England state will be formed after the first New England tour by Boston Chamber of Commerce delegates. Portsmouth Biddeford and surrounding towns report unprecedented business outpourings as plans to bolster regional trade are presented. In Biddeford commerce paused while Saco Kennebunk and Old Orchard attendees hear the talks.

Chester S. Jordan, found guilty of first degree murder in East Cambridge, faces death by electric chair. Within minutes his counsel sought a month's time to prepare the bill of exceptions as the case heads to higher courts.
Jurors left the trial room at 5:22 pm and delivered a verdict by 12:33 pm the next day, the longest Middlesex county jury decision in a decade. Defence exceptions may go to the Supreme Court if higher courts deny a new trial. There was a 19 hour 11 minute interval between decision and court announcement, with the jury delivering the case for consideration.
