Central Labor Union Objects to Abolition of Departments
At a regular meeting of the Central Labor Union in Wells Memorial Hall Boston, members denounced Mayor Hart for abolishing the electrical and repair divisions. A five member committee was appointed to investigate Captain William Brophy s report on the electrical division and to seek the mayor s reasons for ending the repair division. Delegates from multiple unions joined as new members and the group endorsed House Bill 22 for gas regulation while opposing House Bill 679 creating a schoolhouse commission, arguing commissions threaten organized labor. A mass meeting is set for March 21 at Faneuil Hall to celebrate the eight hour workday victory, with speakers including Father Cummins George Fred Williams George E McNeill Ramsdell and A A Berle.
