Navy Quartermaster James McCabe Ends Life By Self-Destructive Acts

Despondent over impending disgrace the twenty year Navy veteran James McCabe, a Quartermaster Sergeant at Charlestown Navy Yard, used a razor and revolver to end his life. A history of drinking problems and repeated reprimands preceded the tragedy, with discharge papers prepared but not completed due to a missing medical certificate. Medical Examiner Draper found an empty carbolic acid bottle beside the body.

Bearded Providence Chef Becker Found Dead in Batavia Street Room

Becker, a former chef for the Algonquin Club and later at several Boston hotels, is found dead in a Batavia street room after returning May 22 from Providence. Once employed at the Cop Jey Square and Castle Square Hotels, he had recently worked briefly for the Providence Athletic Club and suffered a noticeable decline in demeanor. An intimate friend, Emil Graf, says Becker seemed unsettled and brain-work may have been affected. Becker had about $600 from Germany.

A German man, William A. M. Becker, aged about 30, was found dead in his room at 24 Batavia Street after taking carbolic acid. He had lodged with Mrs. Burke. the death occurred sometime Wednesday night and is recorded as self-inflicted.

Woman Found Dead in Stable At Rockland Residence

The body of 45 year old Mrs William D Sawtelle was found suspended from a beam in the stable of her Rockland Maine home late this afternoon. Authorities declared insanity the apparent cause of the suicide.

Storti Confession At Trial For Axe Murder In Italy Hatred Motive Claimed

At the Superior Criminal Court trial of Luigi Storti for the murder of Michele Calucci with an axe last November, defense challenged alleged confessions as coerced but they were admitted. The confession described prior trouble in Italy, Calucci’s ties to Storti’s sister in law, threats with a pistol, and Storti striking Calucci then fleeing into the woods.

Waring Sues Wife in Brooklyn Marriage Case

Cambridge City Briefs: Fingers severed in streetcar incident

Thomas J. Ryan, 33, of 114 Western avenue Cambridge, tried to board moving electric car No. 2128 bound for Brighton on Cambridge street near North Anderson and two fingers were severed from his right hand shortly after 6 p.m. An additional report states W. E. Merrill, of 12 Broad street, reported thefts of wearing apparel and two gold plated chains from his room, with suspicions toward a lodger.

Classical Cowboy ends Tremont engagement tonight
