Charges Heard Over Merchants' Club on Boylston Street

Police commissioners will hear charges against the Merchants' Club at 140 Boylston Street around July 12. Com missioner Adams said the board is ready to hear evidence of alleged law violations. Claims surface that the club operates with minimal record keeping and that membership requires only a $25 fee.

Battleship Oregon Ashore Off Hoo Kie Island

The Shanghai Times reports the United States battleship Oregon went ashore in a fog off Hoo Kie island thirty five miles north of Che Foo. Jardine Mathieson & Co. are sending aid. The dispatch also notes Admiral Seymour’s forces reaching Anting twelve miles from Pekin and retreating with rice and a large arsenal of arms, after Boxer attacks impeded progress to Pekin.

The Oregon Reported Ashore Near Chefoo Peninsula

The Oregon left Hong Kong last Saturday to join the fleet at Taku. She carried 16 sailors from Manila by the Zafiro and aims to cover about 1500 miles in a week at full speed. Che Foo lies north of the landing point near Tang Chow, with rocky islands offshore. The battleship, famed for a round-the-world voyage and action at Santiago, is 11,000 tons, armed with 18 and 8 and 6 inch guns, costing around 8.225 million dollars. Captain G H F Wilde commands.

Railroad Wreck Near Worcester Leaves Two Dead

The Brookline East Boston electric car crashed down Tremont street injuring many. Motorman Thomas Crady and Jae Celia Burwell among dozens with cuts bruises and fractures as car plowed through storefronts and stopped amid wreckage near Roxbury crossing. Police and ambulances responded. rescue operations began and continued as crowds gathered.
