Boston Suffered Severe Storm With Uprooted Trees
A small cyclone swept Boston area Friday afternoon causing heavy rain and a tornado like gust. Franklin square near Washington and East Newton streets bore the worst damage with a giant maple uprooted, an elm stripped by lightning, and multiple trees felled across Franklin and Worcester squares. City Forester Doogue organized emergency work to clear wreckage and save the maple. Temperature rose to 90 at 1 p m then fell and fluctuated through the day while winds peaked at 36 miles per hour.
