Relief of Seymour's Forge Confirms Tianjin Retreat

From St Petersburg June 28 a war ministry despatch via Che Foo confirms Admiral Alexeioff's news that Seymour's relief detachment reached Tien Tsin with wounded. The expedition failed to link with Pekin and suffered heavy losses including 62 killed and 812 wounded. German squadron reports say the free ministers are with the landing area, later not confirmed with Seymour.

Missionaries in North China Face Peril as Tensions Rise

The American Board reports grave danger for its Pao Ting Fu mission in Chihli province. Rev. Horace T. Pitkin, born 1869 in Philadelphia, and Miss Luella Miner are among those at risk, with hopes for escape minimal. Miss Morrill and Miss Gould reportedly fled from Tien Tsin station. North Adams June 28 The wedding of Miss Florence Agnes Canedy daughter of J N Canedy shoe manufacturer and William Caldwell Plunkett son of William B Plunkett cotton man of Adams drew a city wedding described as Berkshire county’s brightest social event. The ceremony at First Baptist Church featured Rev J N Spencer and Rev J B Penniman with elaborate decor and music by a chorus and Dr Blodgett at the organ. The maid of honor Miss Myra Smith Seattle, best man Theodore Plunkett Adams, bridesmaids from Vermont New York Indiana and Pennsylvania and ushers listed. New York June 8 A Wall Street clerk son Roland Benning aged 19 secretly wed Lottie Benner aged 17 after seeking parental permission. Lightning sets Braintree barn ablaze during storm

During a severe thunderstorm in South Braintree Warren Foss's Fond street barn burned completely after a lightning strike. Superintendent H L Brown was leading a horse from the barn when the bolt struck, killing the animal and stunning Brown. Produce on nearby farms escaped damage despite high winds.
