Bridgeport June 27 Coroner Phelan asked Charles S Mellen president of the New York New Haven Hartford railroad to appear next Tuesday at the continued inquest into the Stamford wreck. The officials refused to testify claiming constitutional protection since they are indicted for manslaughter in the Westport wreck.

City Endures Historic Heat Wave Prostrations

Boston endured a severe heat wave with a record 8042 degrees above zero noted at 4 30 pm and 91 on June 16. In St Pierre South Dakota 104 was the hottest in the nation while Eastport Maine logged 64 above. Veterans Wilt Try Ragtime on Gettysburg March

Gettysburg Penn June 27 Under a hot sun a long line of Massachusetts veterans in blue uniforms marched through Gettysburg toward the old battlefield. Many men were missing limbs or mobility aids as a band played ragtime tunes and organizers prepared meals, transport, and itineraries for a state funded trip to battlesite observances in late June and early July.

Memorial to General Wells Unveiled at Gettysburg by Green Mountain Boys

Vermont’s Gettysburg hero General Wells, the only living general honored with a monument on the battlefield, will attend Thursday’s dedication. The bronze statue rests on native stone bases with a base relief of Farnsworth’s charge at Big Round Top, on Confederate avenue.
