In Ipswich on June 11 a clash looms at the mill as hundreds of Greeks and Poles attend a mass meeting at the Greek Orthodox Church yard to oppose authorities and block operatives from entering. L J Grikstas of Boston T W W urged defiance amid darkness and shouts of Yes.
Five men known in sporting circles were arrested on Boston Common yesterday afternoon in front of the baseball bulletins and booked as idle and disorderly persons. Police say they are determined to end baseball gambling on the Common as part of a crusade that has already ejected gamblers from the ball grounds.
Five men described as idle and disorderly were arrested by plain clothes police near Lagrange Street after a 3 PM incident. The detainees Joseph Sullivan John Carr D J Sullivan George Doyle and Frank Meehan displayed large cash rolls and jewelry. Carr claimed to work as a broker’s solicitor.
Michael Randali, 73, of East Boston, was run over by a two horse wagon on the Boston ferry slip last night. He died shortly after at Relief Hospital. his chest was crushed.
Abe Wolf of 263 Havre Street East Boston owned and drove a team linked to a fatal hit and run. Police allege he was arrested at home and charged with manslaughter after landali, about to board a ferry home, was struck and left unconscious. The driver reportedly returned to his East Boston stable. A boat passenger alerted officers and Landolf's son identified the victim at Relief Hospital mortuary.
In Treville France on June 11 the Count de Novailles nephew, disobeying his governess, entered a kennel where 12 police training dogs were held. The dogs tore the boy to pieces, shocking local observers.
In Providence a jury in Woonsocket found Henri Deslovers guilty of murder in the June 4 last year killing and decapitation of Mrs. Angele Parmen tier. The eight and a half hour deliberation concluded with the verdict tonight.
Deslovers, unable to understand English, learns of his murder conviction after a 3 week trial. Jury reached verdict at 7:30 pm, sentencing decision to be appealed by John F. Fitzgerald and Eugene L. Jalbert. Case, tied to the headless body of Mrs. Parmentier found in the Blackstone River, halves a distant French origin family.
The Boston Street Carmen's Union executive board held a long session about ongoing conference topics with elevated company officials. About 8000 members are expected at Tremont Temple and 724 Washington Street for meetings today and tonight, with a possible strike vote hinted.
