New executive committee members include J A Sovereign Arkansas C F Taylor Pennsylvania H W Reed Georgia Frank Burkitt Mississippi G F Washburn Massachusetts and J W Breidentoal Kansas. Burkitt resigned and J S Dore California was named to replace him to ensure Pacific coast representation. The committee adjourned subject to call by the chair.
John Lacey of Lawrence made a lethal attempt to end his life today after a period of despondency over unemployment. He cut his throat with a razor and is in grave condition with doubtful recovery.

Halifax July 26 Edward Hanlan the oarsman had a close brush with drowning during a Bedford Basin practice when his shell collapsed half a mile from shore. Gunwales separated and only a frail boat remained to support him. He headed for land at top speed and waded ashore three feet from shore.
John F Harris a wealthy Marblehead retiree and former shoe manufacturer died. He served on the Board of Selectmen and chaired the National Grand Bank for years. Harris advised in the administrations of Governors Claflin and Washburn in 1871 and 1872. He was born in October 1825 and leaves a wife three sons and one daughter.
The catboat Georgia owned by William Newhall capsized in the channel near Sand Point this afternoon while jibing its main boom. Six men were aboard. four were rescued by steamer Canastota and the other two floated to shore with the boat.
