Lifesaving duo save youth in Orient Heights swimming race

In a relay heat at Orient Heights a 16 year old, Thomas J Giblin, suffered cramps 25 yards from the starting raft. 19 year old Paul Kincaide and Walter Mahoney intervened, preventing a drowning tragedy as Giblin regained buoyancy and was brought to shore.

Reward for Lost Dog in Yonkers Drawing Mixed Reactions

The Yonkers paper posted a $300 reward for Tumbl er a black and tan terrier found at Park Avenue. A neighbor noted the high amount, while the advertiser said the dog was a pest and the reward benefits his sister, despite the public question about payment.

Wagner Centennial Concert Draws Record Civic Audience

The Wagnerian centennial programme at the municipal concert drew a larger crowd than park concerts with families quiet and appreciative. Mayor Fitzgerald urged nations to follow the German and Swedish societies example, praising national dances from the Fourth of July and hoping for peace through shared song. Performances including the Fantasie from Die Walküre and the Sailors Chorus from The Flying Dutchman received strong acclaim.

North End Italian Society Parade For Feast Day

The Maria SS Del Carmine society of North End celebrated the feast of Mt Carmel with a 2 pm parade led by a band through principal streets ending at 193 Hanover Street for a reception and banquet. Angelo Lucci directed the event. Rev Francesco Palumbizio celebrated mass and Rev Michaelangelo Draghetti gave the panegyric. Raffaele Salemme acted as marshal and toastmaster. a large committee organized the day with about 650 members involved.
