Man Dies After Dare Jump From Pier at Winthrop

Harry Anderson a 49 Greenwich street South End waiter at Point Shirley Club Winthrop died after accepting a $2 bet with three other waiters to jump into the water from the piers at noon none of them could swim and Anderson did not come to surface quickly after the jump.

A man posing as Professor Fred Wheeler Jr of Harvard swindled stores at 257 Tremont and 106 Friend streets, securing goods and cash advances through fake lectures and payments. Eleven Attempts To Burn Old House In Somerville

The most successful arson attempt on a neglected two story wooden house off Cedar street, Somerville, occurred shortly before 8 pm last night. Much of the remaining structure was destroyed as the fire department had already responded to at least ten alarms for this block since the start of the year. The dwelling, once housing six tenants, had recently been vacant and sits among several tenements.
