July 15 Ipswich mill strikers faced evictions as streets filled with belongings while the Ipswich Finance Board debated more anti-strike spending. The dispute highlighted mounting strains on the town treasury and public response to the labor action.
Despairing mothers and children watch as town finances freeze further expenditures including police. Chairman Hull pleads to transfer funds from schools. Tax rate rises to 22 dollars from 15 due to the strike, reflecting widespread sentiment after mill workers were displaced.
Seven year old Peter Zaccone was struck by a Narrow Gauge train at Harbor View station East Boston while peering over a trestle. He lay 12 feet below on mud flats crying for his mother after which he underwent head surgery and was reported in fair condition with a compound skull fracture.
Brockton July 15 Bangs Howes held for stabbing his brother Postmaster Marcus H Howes of Barnstable is alleged to have confessed. He will be committed to an asylum rather than face prosecution. He previously escaped from the Jaunton asylum years ago.
Washington reports four New England members of Congress named on the National Association of Manufacturers blacklist. Representatives Gardner Massachusetts Hinds Maine Reilly Connecticut Foster Vermont are cited by Martin M Mulhall in Senate lobby committee testimony. Mulhall testified about correspondence as Senator Reed led proceedings.
Mulhall identified 410 letters telegrams and memoranda placed in the record by the committee with slight hesitancy. He was cautioned by Senator Reed to study the slips handed to him as he focused on the latter half of 1908 and the early months of 1908.
The divorce court granted a decree nisi to Mrs. George Cornwallis West, formerly Lady Randolph Spencer Churchill, daughter of the late Leonard Jerome of New York. Grounds were statutory desertion and misconduct. The hearing was brief and she announced she would be known as Lady Randolph Churchill thereafter.
Lizzie Rosenberg a five year old of Brockton died when she lost balance while leaning against a screen and fell thirty feet from the third floor of the Jewish synagogue kindergarten striking headfirst on a concrete walk below.
Harry E. Ordway, a waiter at the Cush ing Hotel at Salisbury Beach, was trapped inside a large refrigerator for three hours when a coworker, who saw the door open, closed it and locked it. The incident occurred in Haverhill on July 15.
Ordway forced entry and brutalized Atwood before a refrigerator chilled him to collapse. He later died as staff searched the beach for Atwood and a waiter found the body inside the hotel kitchen. A palmotor revived Atwood but no serious injuries were feared.
Mrs. Walter H. Park of Marlboro jumped into the bay off Bass Point rocks to rescue her 8 year old daughter Margaret and 9 year old Dorothy Alden after they fell into the water. She held them above the surface until several men came to help.
Mrs Park leaped into the water when two girls playing on the rocks fell in. She rescued her daughter and the Alden girl, keeping the children in her arms until others arrived. Both girls were treated at Bass Point House for water in the lungs and expected to recover.
A burglar caught in the act at the Bacon department store on Washington and Ruggles streets Roxbury leaped 35 feet from a window to the ground and escaped after a watchman fired.
A watchman fired four times at a burglar who leapt from a window into the street. The thief, coatless and hatless, was described as dark with curly hair, about 5 feet 6 inches. Police searched the area but found no trace of the man, who likely injured himself on landing.
Fifty delegates from Middlesex county meeting in Cambridge voted to run a candidate for every county office in the coming election and to establish county headquarters in Cambridge. Albian M Richards of Cambridge presided and Daniel Cosgrove of Lowell was the chief speaker.

Chicago July 15 William F Bill Carrigan is en route to Detroit to take over as manager of the Red Sox Jake Stahl is released by President McAleer for the good of the club and will retire after today's game His contract pays 10000 annually through October and is paid in full Stahl pays the penalty for the club's failure this season.
The afternoon meeting left both men flustered and embarrassed with Stahl appearing resentful and as if he might start something. The account continues on Page 10-3d Column.
