Fugitive Gould Seized in New York on Check Charge

James M Gould, 298, a West Point graduate and former U S Army lieutenant, was arrested in New York by Watts Detective Agency for a $30 worthless check written July 2 to Frank Undersee at Hotel Bellevue. He fled Boston after the incident and had worked as an advertising man for United Drug Company.

Tourists Nearly Home From Barbadoes Visit

The South American party of the Boston Chamber of Commerce will arrive in New York next Tuesday and is expected to return to Boston about a week later. A cablegram from Bridgetown Barbadoes says the group expects to be in New York around July 22 and notes the party is pleased with the trip and met with continuous ovations.

Rescue on Battleship Nebraska Amid Steam Blaze

Undaunted by dense steam clouds in the Neptune yard dynamo room of the battleship Nebraska, bert Shorte a 22 year old from New Bedford rushed into the red hot room to save others after a steam valve blew yesterday morning at Charlestown navy yard.

Prisoner Dies En Route After Scout Incident

John B. Beary was elected. Hersty Agena, imprisoned in the team, was uncited and died while being transported to hospital. Leary, though severely scalded, will recover but be marked for life.

Brave Seamen Die After Steam Room Disaster

In a naval accident aboard the Nebraska a pipe burst in the lower dynamo room at 10:30. Seaman Agena collapsed from scalding steam while Leary, the electrician, entered the inferno to rescue him. Herbert Shorte of New Bedford saved Leary from the flames. Agena died enroute to the Naval Hospital in Chelsea. Leary and Shorte face possible recognition for bravery. Agena, 22, home in Long Island City, worked as Leary’s helper. Leary, 23, lives at 13 Chestnut Street, Charlestown, with his wife Mrs. Annie Leary.

Elevator accident injures three in Back Bay garage

Three men were injured when an elevator in a new Back Bay garage on Blandford Street dropped 25 feet. Frank Hemel, 28, from Tremont Street, was seriously injured and taken to City Hospital on the dangerous list. His brother Joseph, 35, and Louis McCarthy, 27, were only slightly injured.

Cows and Chickens Stricken by Rabies in Exeter

Dr. Guy Chesley investigated farm stock at Burleigh Hill and C F Hervey in Exeter. Several cows and calves were bitten by a small dog and died from rabies. Hens on the same farms died from the canine bites.

Ground fishermen and swordfishers discharge fares at T wharf

Yesterday at T wharf thirteen ground fishermen two swordfishermen and two mackerelmen discharged fares. Prices quoted for seafood ranged from 9 12 cents to 41 4 cents per pound with steamer Spray delivering 600 pounds of scrod haddock and 5500 pounds of swordfish aboard the Dor cas and Massasoit. Captain Thomas McComisky replaced Richard Tobin aboard the Spray and a carrier pigeon was found aboard the vessel. The Massasoit lost its main boom off South Shoal light and will be fitted before leaving port. Lobster supply shifts to Maine lobstermen as Nova Scotia season ends.
